In a catamaran…and didn’t run out of fuel. Total run was 182.1 miles in 2-3 foot seas. What a great ride. Went to the South Ledge in the rain and fog. Went out to 900 feet. The temp at the ledge was 68…at the 100 fathom curve broke 72 and 76.8 at 900 feet. Scattered busted up weed and my crew picked weed all day. One dolphin(skinny cow) missed a bait jumping through the spread. Nothing else…no birds/bait/life. Plenty of flotsam…even a coconut!!!
Trolled back to the ledge and picked up a little tunny in rough water.
The hot water in the stream and the flow made for the nicest ride of the day…as evidenced by my picture of my crew that kept their spirits up in spite of no fish and crappy weather:
The reason we went was the weather was supposed to get better during the day…it didn’t. Also saw the hot water at the 100 fathom curve on the Rutgers GA coast:
We also went out on Saturday. Left out of Beaufort and went to the triple ledge. Water was 74 at the ledge and 76 in 300ft. This is pretty much what I expected, from the temps on my rip charts. The South Ledge and Triple ledge are only about 15 miles apart. I’m surprised there was such a difference in the temps. We didn’t get a wahoo hit, but did pick up a really nice bull dolphin in 250ft. Also lost a smaller one on the same line. Weeds were a pain in the butt. The weather only improved marginally during the day.
Glad you made it out and the cat made it back! How did the new props preform and what was the final results on fuel burn!
You were up late last night for an old man. Prostate got you up?
The props got me 20-22 knots at 4200 rpm all the way out and back…in 2-3 foot seas that were about 1-2 seconds apart…I was amazed.
Haven’t filled up yet but put 10 gallon per side before we hit the sound on the way in to keep from running out thru the buoys. I’ll post it when I do it.

When we made the South Ledge, there was a boat fast trolling south in 68-69 water temp down the ledge...I put lines out at the ledge...did a circle around live bottom and headed deep trolling to 900+ feet seeing the temp changes along the way.
Turned to the Triple Ledge to troll back in and no other boats there except a commercial head boat anchored about 1/4 mile South from the Triple Ledge, on the ledge.
That's where we caught the little tunny. "Maddies' Daddy" is my handle and we'll be seeing you out there "Fullhookups"
What did you have in your spread? What did the dolphin hit? Troll speed?

Obviously not the right bait/speed. I ran 2 cedar plugs with 3 surface ballyhoo and a shotgun wahoo favorite. The dolphin didn't hit anything...just jumped thru the baits.

The ENTER-NET Fisherman
The commercial boat was there, and there were two other boats on the ledge. Everyone left when the rain came in, except for us and the commercial boat. We pulled in the trolling lines about 130 and went bottom fishing.
I’ll be back next weekend, if the weather will let me out.
