Just returned from Florida where I had a half of a day to check out the new I-Pilot that Chris V and the guys at Charleston Marine installed for me last week.
They did a fantastic job. The installation was great. They do great work at a really good price.
Thanks Chris V!
We tried it for about an hour on spot lock and recording a route for about a mile. All that drained the battery from full to about 3/4 charge. It worked great and I can’t wait to get it in the water again.
We ended up with five redfish in the boat between 25 and 30 inches, two break-offs and one or two other missed fish. All fish that we caught were returned to fight another day.
I have a 17 ft. Sundance Flicker w a 70 Yamaha 4-stroke. Per the specs the boat and motor weigh about 1150 lbs.
I got the 55 lb. thrust Minn Kota. I was debating going w the 70 lb but my ■■■■■■■■ compartment could fit only one battery. Also, didn’t want the extra cost.
As a performance data point we were loaded w two of us, a full (19 gal) gas tank and gear. Had the gas motor down running in idle bc we had to jump start it at the ramp and I didn’t want to shut it off. Were going into a light wind w one on the poling platform and one on the cooler. The 55 lb. maxed out at 2.1 mph.
