Well we are going to give the kings a shot on Saturday. I have never fished for them before but one of the guys going with us has been out a few times. I’ve been reading the boards through the winter trying to learn what I can. We have a few goods spots that the Haden have been hanging in pretty thick so we should be good for some live bait, but we will bring some spoons along just for fun, and to change things up if we aren’t getting any strikes.
Any advice or tips for a new kingfisher would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the great info so far through the other threads and I hope to post a successful report come Monday.

Wish I cld help. I’m in same boat as you. Going to troll the shipping channel on the 5th, weather permitting, and then hit the nearshore and see if we can catch some keeper BSB and spades. I’m abt 90% clueless on it but we’re going to try trolling clark spoons, stretch 25s and a cpl king rig skirted ballyhoo. Ill report when we return. Not expecting much but if we can get a smoker or two it’ll be nice. Ill have a rod rigged with a gotcha lure in case spanish are busting. Good luck and let me know what you had most success with!

Trolled the shipping channel last weekend with no luck. Doesn’t mean they aren’t there. The Spanish were hot and heavy out there. I would say once you find the water color line troll that for a while. We were seeing some larger fish crash the small needle fish swimming around that area. Good luck, let us know how you did.
A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.
we trolled the shipping channel on wed with no luck. now the seas were 4-5’ out by the 3rd set of cans and the water was on the cool side at 75*. maybe the water might warm up some by sunday or monday but if not i would go deeper.
This is VERY last minute, but I was out loading my boat for tomorrow and I have a trim hydraulic line leaking, so that’s out. If anyone needs an extra person tomorrow, I have my rods, tackle, cast net, ice, and bait ready to go. And of course I’ll help with gas. Give me a call.
