Took my yak out for the first time fishing on Saturday at 0 dark thirty down at Edisto. Too Busy might recognize my bote
Rigged up the obligatory milk crate and packed only the essentials. For my anchor I used a weight that we found inside our window sills in our old house. I guess they used to be counterbalances. Anyway, tied on a rope they make great Yak anchors.
Since it was my first outing, I decided against bringing a castnet, bait holder and flyrod, so instead I brought only artificials.
Threw topwater at several interesting spots but no customers. Made a several mile paddle, just checking things out, scouting spots and enjoying nature.
On the way back I tied on a white DOA shrimp and threw it at some interesting structure. Side note: I have never caught squat on a DOA, so I have no confidence in them despite so many people saying its their go-to lure. Therefore, I usually reach for something else, but I was determined to figure it out. Well I did catch a little red on one today, so two firsts: 1st fish in the yak (for me) and first on a DOA. Pretty cool.
I was following flipper back up the creek so he was probably killing the fishing ahead of me.
I heard a commotion (little girls squealing) up stream after flipper passed. When I got there, a mom and kids were on their dock. I asked if they saw fipper. Their golden retriever came running down the dock after flipper and jumped right in…thus the commotion
