Fish Attractors

I’ve searched the forum and DNR’s website and I can’t seem to find any info on whether or not fishermen are allowed to drop fish attractors. Does anyone know of any restrictions? Thanks.

Where are you talking about doing it?

Some Corps of Engineer lakes have restrictions.

If you’re talking about Santee Cooper, have at it. I used to dump a lot of brush in Moultrie years ago, it definitely helps…provided you drop it in a good spot. If you just randomly drop brush your results will be mixed.

I was thinking about bushy park freshwater side and possibly gcr.

I’ve seen a few put in Bushy Park freshwater. I live on Lake Marion and especially after Christmas I see almost daily some pontoons loaded with huge piles of Christmas trees to set out. I made a couple out of bamboo set in buckets of cement.

Don’t know about any statewide regulations on this activity other than not creating any kind of a boating hazard or polluting water with oily engine blocks or some other hazardous material. You never want to be too obvious with what you are doing, otherwise you will have tag alongs that will fish your beds without helping build them.

I spoke to officer Graham and he said its fine in dorchester county, but wasnt sure what other officers would say in other counties.

ditto rasputensc. Here on Lake Marion they put out their brushpiles on the nastiest rainy and windy days to keep others from knowing

I think it verrys from lake to lake, Had some freinds ticketed at Lake Greenwood a few years ago!
