Fish cleaning table

I started a project last weekend that I have wanted to do for some time. I finished it up today. I finally have somewhere to clean my fish. It turned out exactly like I had it pictured in my head…which doesn’t happen often  I wanted a top that would last so I used composite deck boards. The water supply (for now) will come from a hose…But I built it so I could just cut the female hose fitting off and tie it in directly with pvc…when I feel inspired to dig the 70 ft. trench that it will take.

Very Nice!!! The composite deck boards is a great idea for the top.!
How are going to handle the drain?

Nice work. Where did you get those deck boards?

Very nice! I did something similar once with an old country kitchen porcelain sink I was given. It was large and had the sides built into it so I just bolted it to the back of the garage and ran the water lines. For the drain, I laid a length of perforated pipe in the ground and plumbed it up. The soil was very sandy and it worked very well. Wasn’t near as sporty as yours, but functional.

Great work! A French drain will fill with small scales and plug up in not time unless you install a settlement container. Ferguson, plumbing supply, online, etc sell small plug and play type grinder boxes that make it much easier to pipe the water away. I tapped a 3 " line in my garage apartment with 1-1/2. No smell, no clogs no problems!
Oh… Forgot to mention. You can use gulper/effluent style pumps (they are cheaper) if you have strainers in the sink drains for large pieces. I used the cheaper pumps but got annoyed with emptying the strainer and found a disposal from habitat.

The composite decking came from Lowes. This was my first time working with it…it’s really easy to work with… The drain…well, I built this kind of close to the back of my lot…or the yard, anyway. I connected all 3 sinks in line and ran 1 1/2 in. pvc, just under the surface, to the back of the yard…dumping into a thick, overgrown area on the back of my lot(about 20 yards). The ground is really sandy so it was a fairly easy trenching job. I’ll keep the strainer baskets in to keep anything big from being flushed through. No fish cleaned yet, but everything is working perfectly so far. I just realized that the first pic was from last weekend when I had a temporary water hook up to test the faucet.

Looks Great! I did something similar with the drain line on mine. No problems.

Pretty work…

That looks really nice. I hope the deck boards aren’t too close together. They expand and contract quite a bit with temperature changes.

Dang Rick; had to go check to see if our kitchen sink was still there;; identical!!!
Great looking job!!

Gail wins…I picked up that sink and faucet for $25 a few years ago…A guy had remodeled his kitchen and was selling the old one. It’s been sitting out behind my shed since then, just waiting on a home.

Does composite expand and contract?

"Information you need to know about expansion and contraction…

Composite products expand in warmer temperatures and contract in cooler temperatures. Expect gaps between butt joins during cooler temperature (night/winter). These butt join gaps will close up during warmer temperature (day/summer). Refer to our ‘Expansion and contraction’ table to find out the expected amount of expansion and contraction you can expect.

To achieve the best looking result, consideration is required when determining the layout of your decking boards to minimise the visual impact of gaps between butt joins."

I doubt it will matter much on a table that size.

I know for a fact they expand along the edges as well. I have seen what happens when there is no gap between boards and they are laid edge to edge. It isn’t pretty; however, it is a small surface and it may be negligible. The owner will really not know for certain until there is a week of late August weather. It is a very nice looking table and I hope it stays together.

If its a full cellular composite (azek, timbertech, moisture shield) it wont expand in width, they cant, a capped composite will, and even then it will be minor. Shouldn’t have any issues, and it definitely will still serve its purpose as a cleaning table, looks sharp!

Awesome idea to use the composite
