Fish Finder/GPS Map Question

I have a Lowrance fish finder/gps and I find the built-in map to be adequate for the fishing I do, showing depth and bouys in the inshore creeks and rivers. I am considering a Humminbird Helix-5 as a replacement and would like opinions on the quality of their built-in cartography.

Thanks for any help

Bob

I have a Heli 5 and Helix 7 (both Gen1) but I use the Navionics chips. I’ve heard some very good things about Humminbord’s mapping but I don’t have any firsthand experience with them. The newer Gen2 Helix series is supposed to be heads and shoulders better than the Gen1 models. Also, I’d recommend getting the largest screen you can afford. I have the Helix 5 at the console and the Helix 7 on te bow but I’m going to move the 7 to the console and get a new Helix 9 Gen2 for the bow.

God bless the “ignore” function.

I recently went through this type of research and ended up with a Raymarine Dragonfly. What I found for this Raymarine series is that you choose from 3 different cartography databases including what I assume is their own system, Navionics and C-Map. I went to the website for each of the 3 and decided on the Navionics for the Edisto area and the micro-card thing came with it. If it turns out to be a mistake I could purchase one of the other cartography databases and exchange in same unit.
