I tried searching for any tips on how to install a second fish finder, but that resulted in pages of threads about kayaks.
This is the same model I currently have: http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2014-Lowe-Stinger-ST175-102203002
I am still debating on whether or not to use the mounting bracket, or attempt a flush mount in that angled section. i’m leaning more towards the flush mount for a cleaner install and to keep it out of the way when the kids are getting in/out, but not being able to see the screen due to glare is making me think twice.
My actual question for you guys is this: What is the best (DIY) method for running the wires through the inside of an aluminum bass boat? would it be safe for me to tap into the trolling motor’s power and ground wire to power the up front unit (it is a 12v trolling motor)?
I am relocating the lowrance x4 pro from the dash console to the front of the boat, and replacing it with a lowrance elite x4 dsi. is there a way to network lowrance units so that you can operate both head units from one transducer?
Thanks y’all!
First off, don’t use the trolling motor power. It will only cause interference when the TM is running. Pull a new set of wires from the cranking battery. You can use the same rigging tube that the TM wires are ran in. Second I would put it on a mount on the bow, not flush mounted for the reasons you stated. Glare will be your worst enemy and if you can adjust the angle on it, you can get past the glare. Also would make it easily removable for when you don’t need it.

I agree completely with tigerfin. I have a 18’ Lowe jon boat with a fish finder on the front. Definitely use the cranking source or you will have to add a static filter. Mount on the factory mount. Glare will kill you and removing it is easy. Plus when I am throwing a cast net I can fold it down so its not in the way. If you want pics just PM me.
thanks guys, so the flush-mount is out of the question. any cool tips on how to ease the pain of guiding the wires through the inner parts of the boat?
Fish tape. If you’re lucky there will be a spare pull string/wire in the rigging tube already and you can just use that. Make sure you pull an extra in when you pull the wire so you’ll have it if you ever need it in the future. Also get a tm transducer mount because you’re only going to need that depthfinder when your up front on the trolling motor anyway.
