What kind of snapper(not the Queens)? Caught in Isla Mujeres Mexico 800-1100 feet. Similar to a silky or yellow eye, but note a lack of much yellow in the eye.
Mystic Grouper, Queen Snapper and Yellow Eye Snapper…all good eats!

For us inshore guys. Do their eyes pop out like that because of the sudden depth change? If you reel them up and that happens, I guess you gotta keep them huh? This is not a conservation thing, not trying to start anything, just have never been deep-sea fishing so I just don’t know.

air bladder swells up and squishes them from the inside out - pressure at 800 ft down is around 23-24 atmospheres… so when you bring that little air bladder balloon up to the surface it wants to be 23 times as big. Actually bigger if you count the temp change!
