Is this a jolthead porgy?

We threw it back since we weren’t sure what it was.

Are they any good to eat?

It’s a porgie for sure and yes they are good to eat. In the charter boat business we called them silver snapper, the tourists like the word better than porgie:smiley:

Great eating there. I prefer them over vermillions.

Thank you, Captains!

I’ll put them on ice next time.

Looks like a red porgy to me

Good fighters and good to eat. Red porgies, the old salts like to call them silver snappers… I grew up fishing with my uncle offshore and he always called them silver snapper, makes me smile every time I hear that phrase.
