indeed a sole. hogchoker, trinectes maculatus
tiny mouths, too small for a hook. lots of flatfish species around here that don’t get big enough to eat. tongue soles, windowpanes, fringed flounder…

back in the 60s used to catch something like that in the tidal waters up north ,I was stationed in Rhode Is. And could catch them with bream hooks and earth worms,real small sucker type mouth, us rednecks called them YANKEE FLOUNDER !!!

Catch a lot of those in Bulls Bay while shrimping.
Those tongue soles are freaky to hold they feel so much like a tongue:stuck_out_tongue:
