How long after the catch are fish good for in the fridge? I usually keep them for 3-4 days and then freeze em. Am I missing something?
A) white meat fish? —(bsb, wahoo, dolphin, sheeps, etc)
B) red fish? ---- (tuna)

2 days max for me…
If they are properly washed and packaged there is no reason they cannot stay in the fridge for up to 7 days…I have had fish that looks better after 7 days then most of what I see at most fish counters around here.
reelly…
I agree with earlytimes. 7 to 10 days properly cleaned is fine. Think about the commercial boats that go out for 10 days at a time. by the time the fish that were caught the first couple of days make it to the market some of those fish are two weeks old.
how bout fish on TOP of ice in a cooler. I have a friend who says that his fish aren’t “fresh” enough if they’ve sat for a short duration (less than 48hrs) on TOP of ice instead of ice packed.
me? I’ll eat em.

I keep my fish on ice in the frige, and i drain and add new ice daily. I will keep for a week or so. As long as it does not get a fish smell.
I just did a trial on some wahoo from last Tues. We ate them on the first, third, and fourth day.
Results= Day 1----great
Day 3----great but maybe a little stronger. A big maybe.
Day 4----was getting a little fishy. Put in freezer to fry.
Analysis: (May not be with just fish only) Things start to smell fishy after three days without the proper care.
I think EF getz the prize.
