My DNR sticker got all ripped up and only shows up to 19". Whats a good alternative to a permanent ruler. I don’t like the idea of those portable aluminum ones. Rather have something that is always on the boat and can’t be lost or go overboard.
Sharpie pen on the top of your gunnel or your deck marking a few lengths that you’re concerned with will last a few trips. Can also mark off lengths on a fishing rod, gaff or net handle.
Other than that or a sticker I am not sure what else you can use other than folding rulers or aluminum measuring sticks unless you’ve got a cooler with ruler on top.
Try putting the reg/ruler sticker on the underside of one of your boat’s hatch lids where it won’t get rubbed off/faded as easily.

I use a 46" long x 2" wide x 5/16" thick length of teak, with 1" and 1/2" router marks, mounted to my rear casting platform.
i cut the bent end off the aluminum ruler then riveted it to my boat.can’t loose and it don’t fade.

I found a piece of aluminum that is the same size of those fish rulers with holes already in it perfect to be pop-riveted in place. Gonna notch out the inch marks with a grinder I think

I took a DNR sticker ruler and cut just the ruler itself off. It’s about an inch wide. I stuck it where the edge of the gunnel and forward bulkhead meet, then ran it back rearwards along the bottom edge of the gunnel. It’s very inconspicuous and always right there. Mine has been there 3 years and held up fine. When we want to measure a fish just hold him against the ruler and its done. So - its permanent, out of the way, and easy to use
Mine is the same on my little Scout, Hoppy. Holds up pretty well for me too, but I don’t fish nearly as much as you do. But, McFdoom, sounds like you’re wanting something rugged that’s mounted. If you want something really rugged and fixed in place, as you indicated above, I guess you could take a thin, stainless yard stick (Lowe’s) and mount it somewhere or put it on a cord. Or, just buy a cooler with the ruler on the lid.

Mine is over 3 years old, or maybe even older (whenever the last time the rulers were red). It gets pressure washed at the car wash and suffered no ill effects. In my book that’s permanent and durable. I really like how its inconspicuous because of the location and size (b/c I cut all the writing, etc off. Plus, no holes were made in the making of this device, which is a big big plus
Roger. Mine’s 5 yo. White. Showing a little wear and tear, but not bad at all–still totally functional. Good product. Just right for me.
McFdoom, if you really want to mount a rugged ruler and don’t want to punch holes, you could probably use 4200 or 5200. I used 4200 to mount my plastic documentation placcards in the past (and a lot of people do). Held for years and never failed. Pretty solid. You’ll need to score up the back of the ruler pretty well first, but it will probably hold well if you coat (zigzag) the whole surface and squish it on good and hard. If you use the 4200, you’ll be able to remove it a lot more easily. 5200 is a menace to remove. 4200 always held just fine for my doc placcards. Might not hold up as well in a traffic area that’s exposed to the elements and has fish banging against it all the time, though. Not sure. Just a thought, since you asked about an alternative mounted solution.
You might want to just try repositioning your sticker instead, though. Much easier. That’s what I would do.

Just general FYI on the DNR rulers…They had been out of stock for quite some time but I just had a box full arrive here in Haddrells WA this afternoon for those who may need one,and the Mt P locale will have them shortly as well. They are N/C as always have been
I saw some at West Marine (N. Chas., Rivers Ave.)last Friday…doubt that they are all gone…they had a bunch.

just a thought …if you really want your DNR ruler and sticker to last…screw a peice of plexi or plastic over it. The last owner of my boat did that on the registration numbers and they were on there for years!
