While shrimping in BB the other day, my son and I kept catching 2 species of fish I could not ID. One was a little bigger around than a silver dollar with equal sized dorsal and pectoral fins and was bright silver. The other looked just like a baby bonefish. Any ideas?
first might’ve been a young atlantic bumper? we get them by the hundreds during later parts of the shrimp baiting season in the harbor.

only guess on the second one is whiting, but i’m betting you can ID them already.
This fish was completely round with fins and a tail. Maybe they become a little more elongated as they grow to maturity.
Doc, I think I caught a few of these in the harbor too, I thought they were juvenile florida pomino, but not sure

I have always heard those called horlbecks and some call them butter fish. Its not a pompano thats for sure.

perkins got a pompano, first pic was the bumper. butterfish and harvestfish look like a bumper, but are less common inshore.
harvestfish:

this is a lookdown. they have long trailing fin elements when little, and are extremely “thin”… or laterally compressed:

this is a silver perch-- not a good candidate because it’s too perciform in shape:

what i caught in my net was definately the harvestfish thanks barb

I catch the harvestfish regularly.
I also catch a lot of perch, are they good for anything(bait etc…)?
Looks like a small bass type fish to me.
