I was fishing today. Looking out the front of the boat and heard a splash. Turned to see an osprey had grabbed my transom bait and was flying away with it and my ugly stick with 6500. It had the rod tip up and the butt was dragging the water. He got about 50 feet and had to drop it. Luckily he kept coming after it long enough for me to get turned around and close enough to throw an Alabama rig and catch the line. That was a first for me.
It has been real quiet here for the last couple of weeks.
With the MSC tournament and the DNR Open coming up this weekend, anybody care to tell where the BIG FISH</font id=“size3”> are?

OK. Next question. How do I catch them?

Oh wait, I WAS there last night. Time to apply the techniques that I heard about, I guess…

Nice talk last night Chip! Sorry I didn’t get a chance to speak to you. What you and others do is definitely a different game than what the rest of us typically play. Hearing you speak, I now have a better understanding of where you’re coming from. You are willing to go several outings with the skunk in your boat for that one shot at a fish for the ages. I get it now!
Personally, I do enjoy catching my typical 3-15 pounders with an occasional trophy mixed in. However, if I had the time to round up and care for big bait, I would spend half of a typical 8 hour fishing day doing what you do. Again, thanks for your insights last night.

Very true James. It’s part of the hobby (addiction) for me. Making bait trips vs fishing trips is just as enjoyable to me. Bringing them home and tending to them and watching the bait turn into striper candy is def a past time of mine. Some watch TV in the evenings I literally can sit and watch the bait tank for hrs…ha…
Your comment above is exactly why I don’t mind sharing what and how I fish in meeting presentations, because To be honest maybe 1 or 2 people in that entire room will change their way of thinking. And it will change for about 2 weeks and then realize how much work and effort is involved (along with the non catching) and they will go back to the style they were fishing before (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that). But in order to Target big fish on Murray, (and remove SOME of the luck) people have got to change their mind set…
And I will end this the way I began the meeting…This topic is very opinionated.
And boatpoor we just gonna have to agree to disagree there…I will bet my house ther
My yesterday got even better last night. I had some bait left that I’d did not want to put in my big tank with my Saturday bait. I swapped water in the best and left them in the boat. I also did not bother to unhook the boat since I was going again this morning. Went to the boat this morning and a critter had come into the building and snacked on some bait. Had scales all over and a couple half eaten gizzards on the boat. Definite murder scene. I threw some more bait in the tank and headed out to be terrorized by the ospreys. Hard to watch $2 shad get cut up by a bird. They got me in two different parts of the lake. I have some dead ones in the freezer for Saturday. Hopefully I can send them back to the best for a while if they start.
Chip, I get it about the bait. I started with a tote behind my shop. I now have a 24x12 roof over the area with lighting and a 500 gallon tank.
There’s no way you guys fished in this wind today. It was blowing 30 mph.
Man, you guys are tough.
Hopefully the wind Saturday will be somewhat better.

Also, when you come out of little gap in to the big water and turn towards the dam, it’s on your left.

Chip, ya’ll can have the big water and I’ll take the river! How big is the house and does it have a big dock and boat storage for 7 boats?
Don’t be so quick to take that bet…
I personally know of seven 20#+ fish caught on Murray in the last six months … Only ONE came above the elbow … and two of the six came from my boat east of the Gap …

I was gonna throw out some numbers of the 4 trips last week but decided not too. Then you start getting nosey neighbors and you really don’t want to hear the reports from last week either…but again everyone has an opinion and chasing bigger fish is highly opinionated
