…Anyone heard of a #32 Striper caught at Clark’s Hill last week, on a Duck decoy? I’ve heard the rumor from more than one source.
I would guess it was more likely one of these than an actual “decoy”.

Negative Sir, I was told that the Duck Decoy’s anchor rope was hooked by the Guide’s line, while trolling Herring, for Striper. One of the Guides clients commented that “there was a Duck following the boat”. Next, the Duck was swallowed by a #32 Striper, and reeled in without a hook in it’s mouth?

However unlikely some may see this, it is certainly plausible to me. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had a big stripers slam my big planer boards without finding the bait. I’ve even thought about attaching trebles to my boards but figured it would be dangerous when getting a fish into the net hooked conventionally. A moving duck decoy could certainly get a big predator’s attention.

not hard to believe. i once caught a coleman lantern in Murray while trolling for stripers and the dang thing was still burning. now; if you will put some hooks on that duck decoy i will blow out that lantern. just sayin
