fishing really sucked for me today thought we was gonna slay em perfect weather had all day not a bite tried bushy park then went to leeds and fished from the railroad tracks to the harbor every little hole creek we could find didnt even see a baitfish jump nothing fish must be on vacation
Same for me, fished the Folly River, not a bite.
Slow for me too. Fished creeks off the Wando with only 2 dink trout. Hope somebody killed em. (Although that would make me feel inadequate)

Misery loves company …we didn’t get a bite either. Fished the upper Wando. Creek mouths, oysters, deeper holes, mud flats, bends in the creek , etc. mud minnows on the bottom, under a float, trout tricks, etc. nothing, notta, zilch.
Really surprised because like others said, conditions were amazing, just no fish.
Interesting. We fished the Georgetown area. 2 boats - 6 reds between the 2 boats. Had to beg these fish to bite. Fished all day.
Mullet were hard to catch too.
Do you think it is the weather change?
Hope it picks up. Have 2 weeks of fishing planned…
Hopefully tomorrow will not be this way. Sometimes they just wont bite. Especially in the winter.

well maybe it was the fish and not just me then
cant cach em at work
I wasn’t just you. We launched from the Dawhoo Landing in pea-thick fog and ran to The Spot! So glad we took my friend’s boat as he has GPS and boy was it needed. Anyway, we got to the spot and anchored. My first cast produced a FAT 24" and we thought, Yes, it is on. Three cast later, I caught a 18" with 15 spots (8 and 7) and sadly, that was it for the day. NOT another bite all day. We were using live shrimp and mud minnows under a popping cork and cut mullet and fresh crab on the bottom rigs. Beautiful day after the fog burned off, incoming tide, South wind, and very little boat traffic. We tried several spots and even used some artificial bait. I concur that the fish were on vacation or shocked by the great weather. Wish I could today as I really feel it will be different.

It’s just off because of the moon phase right now. The fish do their major feeding when the moon is almost directly overhead, and again when it is directly opposite. Right now the moon is directly overhead before sunrise, and directly opposite about sunset. The feeding period yesterday was from about 4am to 6am, which is why you had a good early bite and then it quit.
It never hurts to pay attention:smiley:

Cracker Larry,
Expound on that topic a little more. I have heard, but don’t understand the moon’s affect.
It would be a good topic for discussion.
Thanks!
We did ok in the ICW yesterday. 6 reds and two trout.

I sure am glad I wasn’t the only one. I tried out of Buck Hall saturday morning and tried everything I could think of. I didn’t get a bite until later in the day around 3 PM. I would love to know more about this moon phase science
Youtube it. There are some good videos describing it. I always look at the solunar activity for days i will be out. The moon phase gives you your major and minor times. Its not always exactly true but you will significantly increase your catch by paying attention to these things. Good luck.
The trout bite has been extremely light. Not even the light tick you would feel, but more like a slight resistance. Work your Trout Trick or artificial of choice very slowly along the bottom. If you feel something that doesn’t feel quite right, its likely a fish. Set the hook. Water temp was 53F the other day. Slow, slow, slow. Hope this helps you catch more!
Merry Christmas everyone!

I have found it to be true sometimes. My biggest tip off to when fish will be biting is if I see bird activity. An old man once told me that when birds are sitting still, fish are sitting still. When birds are feeding and being active, fish start feeding too. Next time you catch a fish, look up. I bet you will see birds flying around.

That’s probably the best bit of advice I have seen in a long regarding fishing. As I think back of productive fishing trips, the birds were active, especially seagulls.

I got a few trout earlier in the week off a neighborhood creek dock on.
TT is my bait of choice. Worked very slowly across the bottom as you say, sometimes more like dragging it, not bouncing it. The fish are good sized, 15-18", all released to make little trout.
In Oct/Nov, I was picking up some flounder in this exact same spot on TT’s, haven’t seen a flounder in a while now.
The reds are periodically still chasing bait up against the bank at low tide, but haven’t had a real good shot at one.
Now i dont feel as bad… we fished 2 times in the last 4-5 days and only captured one small trout
One other thing you can check for: if I am working, the fish will be biting.
If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.
