I went out of the Paradise Island boat ramp last Sunday for a couple hours and caught one 8" flounder and a small dogfish (I think). I had some bites that I missed. I think they were flouder.
I did get to try out my new Stakeout Pole . It is the greatest. My wife got it for me for my birthday last week, along with the anchor trolly. I will be installing the trolly later this weekend. Thanks to the staff at Time Out for helping her find the right gift for me.
Despite the poor fishing, bait was surprisingly easy to catch. I had a half dozen mud minnows left over from the day before when I went fishing at the Pitt St. Bridge (skunked). But most of them died.
When I got to the ramp, I put a handful of dogfood in the minnow trap and tossed it in the grass on the North side of the ramp. I unloaded my yak and all of my gear and took it to the water. After I was done getting everything ready and the car locked up, I checked the trap - a dozen or so minnows. I couldn’t have asked for a better turnout.
I fished from about 11-2, heading North instead of into the tidal creeks like I normally do. I really didn’t see alot of evidence of fish. I also fished the hole directly in front of the ramp. I saw some swirls like there were some reds in there, but I couldn’t get them to bite.
I am off all next week and plan on doing some fishing. I am free after Monday noontime if anyone wants to show off their redfish holes.
