Fisheries Councils are barking up the wrong trees

They need to back up and start by getting the Menhaden situation under control - instead of inventing problems in other (healthy) fisheries.

Now I don’t agree with all this article says, but I do believe Atlantic Menhaden are seriously overharvested - which causes ripple effects on all sorts of other fisheries.

As a former Florida resident I can testify to what purse seine netting can do to a fishery. I fought along with the people from Florida Sportsman magazine to stop the gill netting of Reds, mullet, mackerl, etc. After less than two years fish stocks were on teh rise and today fishing is better than it has been in teh last 50 years. Spotter planes and this type of “fishing” are not good for any fishery let alone the start of the food chain.
