Fishfinder/Chartplotter Tuning?

I have a Lowrance Lcx-27c on my little skiff, and other than speed and water depth, I have NO idea how to use it. I’m getting geared-up (pun intended) to actually catch fish this year, so gimme some tips on how you dial-in your electronics for the greatest benefit. As usual, thanks in advance for your ■■■■■■■■.

Dang, crickets?

I viewed some u tube videos when I got my new Lowrance .I also had a young person go out with me and help. I’m sure someone would chime in if you listed the specific problems you’re having.

Since no one else has chimed in, I’ll share what little I know. I’m also not familiar with that unit, so this will be pretty generalized. I have an Elite 7. Leave it on the factory settings for the time being, just make sure that the fish symbols are turned off! It tends to mark just about anything floating in the water as fish. Get on the water & play with it. If it has GPS, get a Navionics card. It is well worth the money. You tube can be your friend. That’s all I got.

Now, since there’s a chance that someone here will disagree with what I’ve said and bash me shamefully for giving bad info, they can point you in the right direction.

Every GPS I’ve seen has a built in base map, usually with the ability to display both sonar and gps on a split screen, or just one or the other. You can normally load new maps if you wish. With the GPS running, you should have a button (touch screen or physical) to record a location (Waypoint), and name the site if you wish rather than just a number. It’s not really that hard once you get used to it. The factory settings work for most applications. When all else fails, read the directions.

I am not familiar with your unit but most of them have a slot to insert a micro SD card. You can go to the DNRSC website and download all of the reef waypoints to a micro SD card and then download them to you unit. I just did my Lowrance Hook 9. Once they were downloaded I then went in and renamed the ones that I thought that I would use anytime soon with something that had meaning to me. You can also download maps (including waypoints) from the DNR site as well.
I will be down to Charleston this weekend and will be trying to locate a couple of the nearshore reefs using the data that I downloaded.

Hope this is helpful

BADBOB, if you get a chance let us know how this works out for you. I believe I will try the same thing if you have luck with it.
Thanks
