Fishin with dad 10/23 and 10/25

My ol man has been holed up in Atlanta with my mom being ill. Last time he was in town (2011?), we tried to fish our only day in a 14 ft itty bitty boat and got blown out w/ 20 mph winds in Bohicket. We were way overdue for a reunion.

I won a raffle for a trip w/ Stretch and we got to go this past Thurs - dad drove up after work Wednesday and slept a couple hours and we were off!

Grass point for outgoing yielded a big fat trout, and a handful of dinks on shrimp w/ popping cork and lonnnng leader.

Cork drifting on grass line by structure and under a dock was good for a rat red, 2 baby flounders, 1 tagged monster red, and another trout or two.

3rd spot was good for some great sheepshead action (Dad had never caught one and it took a minute for him to get the hang of it, as he was being terrorized by baby sheeps and couldnt get the hook set on them), as well as a couple of black drum! One more flounder off the non-structure side as well.

Great day - 5/5 for inshore sport fish… super duper slam. Capt Fuss has his crap together and is a great guide, and is a great guy to fish with, but you guys know that already.

We spent Friday re-wiring my boat and tinkering, which is Dad’s second favorite thing to do. Drank a couple beers and got the boat straightened out for the first time since work got crazy last winter.

Fished Sat at the end of outgoing through dead low tide. Showed my butt @ bohicket marina trying to back off the ramp with the tide ripping down that side and learned a bit about boat physics. Caught some bait and ran up the north edisto into the creeks but tide was already out before I got to my favorite spot. Puttered a bit and got killed by gnats, moved on.

Next spot at dead low we dropped the trolling motor and spooked a couple reds that were camouflaged in the muddy water. Spotted some nice bonnetheads tailing up and down the oyster banks and did some sightfishing - crept up on the first one and threw all around him until he finally ate my shrimp. Handed the rod o

Great report. People mock those wearing buffs, but IMO they are the best thing for gnats. Hat, buff, long sleeves, long pants. Good to go. I hear ya though, I’ve been in gnats so thick at Edisto that I got bit on the white of my eye

I love living in this area, but the one thing I absolutely hate more than anything else is the noseeums.
I used No-Natz last year and I can’t definitively say how well it worked but I think it did make a difference.

I hear ya - hoping it will cool off a bit so I can wear long pants/sleeves/etc. Was thinking I wouldnt mind fishing in one of those ebola-proof space suits by the end of the trip!

Buy No-Nats from Haddrell’s and mix 2/3 No-Nats with 1/3 Avon SkinSoSoft. Works! Plus you will have soft smooth skin…

Glad to see you are putting those reels to work,.

that is why i have all that stuff. Its not to look cool. Im all about function and that is the best way to not have to use sunscreen or bug spray.plus, keeps you cooler on hot days.

Good fishing bub! And as far as the gnats go there is the go to Skin So Soft! Stuff works like a champ! That and if you rub yourself with bounce dryer sheets and maybe even tuck one in your hat (or hardhat) and that keeps em at bay as well!
