Fishing a deep hole

When fishing a deep hole such as, dynamite hole or the grillage area where there is a steep drop off, where exactly do you like to fish? In the hole, on the top ridge, or as close to the break as possible.

What do you guys have the most success doing?

I don’t fish there, but in similar places I always fish right on the edge, on the deep up current side. Fish are a lot like deer, they like edges where one cover or terrain meets another.

So which would you say here, Larry?
C? E?

Your boats facing the wrong direction.

I would aim for between B and C
That current comes off the top and leaves a low flow area where the predators will ambush.

Alternate would be between C and D

Not the side, not the bottom, aim for the transitional areas.

Lol @ boat facing wrong direction…totally right but it’s just for reference so don’t freak out too much…just trying to help this fella out some!

C, with that current direction. The fish will get right behind the structure out of the current and ambush bait as it passes over them.

PS. Don’t anchor by the stern like that, it aint safe:smiley:

Your sitting a little deep there King! you might want to turn on the bilge pump!
Just kidding.Nice graphic.
What if your tide is parallel to the deep water or hole pictured, as in the shipping channel? deep, slop or top edge?

I snorted my coffee.

It depends on what kind of fish I am targeting. If I was shark fishing I would go with D. If I was looking for bull reds C. Obviously you could catch either in either spot but I tend to catch more sharks in the middle of the deep holes.

Also if your boat had a t-top I would think that would catch more fish.

We need more letters.

How about some flounder guys?
Where can should I start to look for Flounder?
My boats too big for the creeks so I have to stay in the harbor.
Jeff

Between A to C or E to F drifting the edge of the drop off with current 90 degrees from that shown. Bouncing bucktails at the end of the leader on the dropoff with gulp baits on a 6-8 inch twisted dropper loop placed 12 - 16 inches above the bucktail.

Giacommin, do you have a example of that rig set up??

Do a yoo hoo search for john skinner flounder fishing with bucktails and gulp to learn about this rig which can be set up in a variety of ways. There are many free videos with great information that will work anywhere.

No registration decals on your boat? I'm reporting you... Water looks nice and clear in your spot though.
