Fishing a Hole

While out with my daughter fishing this past weekend , easing up a creek we came across a rather deep hole. Water surrounding it is from 1 to 3 feet deep at low tide, it drops down to 18 ft (deepest point) and slops up from there. The hole itself is about 15 feet across. Seems to me it should be holding fish. We threw cut shrimp on bottom rigs, didn’t get a bite. Any suggestions on the best way to fish it? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Right now there is so much live bait in the creeks that cut shrimp will be ignored by everything except pinfish, crabs and maybe a ray. That’s a waste of time. Use live bait, or artificials.

Those deep holes in creeks are usually gold for trout, and may hold reds and flounder at low tide, but you’ll need to use live shrimp, glass minnows, finger mullet, small pogies, free lined or with minimal weight and tackle.

Even if the trout aren’t there now, they will be. Remember that spot.

Cracker Larry, thanks a lot, we will give it another try this coming weekend with both live minnows and live shrimp, what ever I catch we’ll throw down and see what happens. When she was young I was in the military, we did a lot fresh water fishing (bream/crappie) up north, now we are trying to learn the ins and outs of salt water fishing. Not very good at it yet, but loving it. Been a member here a couple years, Advice like this helps more than you can imagine. Thanks again…
