Jerms and I hit some areas after work yesterday and much to our surprise the fish were eating fairly aggresive. Hit the flat early and saw several fish working one small area. A perfectly placed fly from Jerms and the fish charged and destroyed the fly. I was on the other side of the flat when my fish that I was stalking blew up on something in about a foot of water and then hightailed it for the tall grass. Didn’t get an opportunity to throw at him, but we did see a few more fish before the water dropped out. It was actually pretty incredible seeing him explode on whatever bait he was eating. We probably saw a total of 10 fish on the flat.
After feeling successful getting off the flat we looked at each other and said, ‘you know what? I kinda wanna keep fishing.’ …so we did…until about 11:30PM that night. The wives were a little bit upset, but they should know better by this point…at least I would think so… Being home by 8 means being home by 1AM.
Caught some beautiful slot reds right as the sun was going down then we hit a few trout spots that had produced in the past and caught a half dozen or so of those guys OTF and on bait. I actually broke the big fish of the day off right at boatside because someone forgot to bring a net…not naming any names, but it wasn’t me. You do the math. Realistically it was about a 28" red, but since we never got him in the boat, I’m calling him 35"…
Had a blast and can’t wait to get out there again. I think we’re planning on going Thursday PM. I have to do some PM on the little boat today, but shouldn’t be a problem.
This is a great time to be fishing in Charleston; get out there and getcha some!
Enjoy
This guy had a cool scar on top of his head…maybe from a prop?

cool pics. If I had to guess the scars look like they are from fishing line. I doubt they are from a prop though.

nice rod placement…wanna bet we’ll see this in the future from other people? the old “flyrod in the mouth” might have just transformed to the “flyrod across the back of the neck”…great pic…
animal cruelty sucks…unless his lip hurts cause there is a 1/0 Owner Aki hook with a chinaback stuck in it
“We base our hopes upon a willingness to go to difficult to get at places, to work hard, to freeze if need be, to rise early and stay late. Years of hunting with the President have taught me that the sticker gets the ducks. We hunt and we hunt hard, often when the chances are poor. In that way we get a few occasionally.” from The Old Duck Hunters

saw the pelicans whackin the smaller ones this winter. Scar looks mighty close to a pelican bill impression.
Great post. This is the first time I have been on here since posting during turkey season. Might I ask what type of camera that is because I am in the market for one and that one might have me sold. congrats on the fish.

I’ll tell you this though, cameras are a lot like fishing gear. Everyone has their favorite and different reasons for purchasing particular brands. There are just as many Nikon lovers as there are Cannon fanatics. Features are somewhat compareable although it seems like the professional photographers all shoot Nikon. It’s all in what you want. I absolutely love my camera, but there are plenty others out there that shoot better quality IMO. They may be a little more $$ or have different capabilities, but you certainly get what you pay for when it comes to cameras.
You can also pay a little extra and get this camera with HD video option, which is super cool too. I think that’s the one Shadowgrass has and he says he loves it.
Do yourself a favor and put in the time and research it and you won’t be sorry. Go to a camera store and play with the Nikons and Cannons and any other brands you feel like to get the feel of them. You won’t regret spending too much time researching to make sure you get the right product, I can assure you of that.
BTW, this was also with my tele lens 70-300MM, its a step up in quality from the kit lens that comes with the camera if that helps any. I always put the telephoto lens on when on the flat just incase we see any great tailing shots that are too far for the smaller lens.
