Trying to plan a bachelor party for my brother and he wants to go fishing and play some golf. Does anyone have any suggestions in Fla. Alabama etc…
It will be in May of next year I just don’t know what’s biting where nearshore or offshore.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I’m not a golfer, but I’ve stayed at the Plantation Golf and Spa resort in Crystal River, FL a few times. They have a nice marina, a private boat ramp, you can tie up your boat outside the room. Good fishing both inshore and offshore, crystal clear water for good snorkeling, lots of manatee. The golf courses look great, but I go to fish.

If you want to travel farther south, the Gasparilla Inn at Boca Grande is also very nice, great fishing, good marina, and again the golf courses look great, but I go to fish and Boca Grande is world class for fish.

We stayed at the Plantation place back in 2001…did not fish or golf, but it was loaded for both. I have meant to go back ever since to fish, but have yet to make it. We did rent a jon boat (for $25, really pricey) and went all over creation…they didn’t even charge me for the gas. Great restaurant and the bar is top notch hang out for golfers and fishermen…Rooms were great also. Might go back now, it was a nice place.
reelly…
Are you going to be on the Panhandle??
I am looking at the panhandle too up to Alabama
I second the Boca Grande suggestion…been going there once or twice a year for the last 5 or 6 years. Have stayed all over the area…Gasparilla Inn is first class and has great golf course, marina, restaurants, bar, etc. Also look at the Boca Grande Club. A few miles north of the town itself, but great condos right on the beach with full ammenities and a couple of marinas nearby with proximity to Gasparilla Pass, ICW, Pine Island Sound, etc. Stayed last year at Palm Island resort…a little more secluded (ferry over, golf carts only), but also very nice. Fishing wise, May will present many options with tarpon top of the list…one year, my sons and I caught 17 different species of fish over a 3 day span (and believe it or not, no redfish!)… a testimony to the diversity of the fishery in that area. Also a prety easy area to navigate yourself…generally calm conditions, soft bottom, well marked waterways, etc., but for first timers I would definitely hire a guide. Boca grande inlet, itself, can be a zoo, but we never really fish the inlet itself much…just too many other great areas, no need to fight the crowds.
Lastly… a little further south you have Captiva Island(s) and Sanibel…everything you could want or need there, too.
Haven’t hired a guide there in several years, but a friend of mine did last year when we all went to Palm Island…caught a world class 175# tarpon with him. Nice guy, too…he let me shadow him in my boat and put us all on alot of fish. If you decide to head that way, I could get his name for you.
Hope this helps.
