Fishing around folly river?

Hey everybody. I’m new to fishing and new to the area. I often take my kayak out at the folly river landing. I’m never sure which way I should be going. Sometimes I head over to the sunken sailboat and sometimes I go north and weave around the oyster beds. I’ve yet to catch anything so I can’t say which area is more productive. Any advice? Is there a certain area that is more fishy than other?

You are welcome to fish with us the next time we head out. Probably in early Jan. due to the holidays. And, the meet and fish is usually the first or second Sunday of the month. Look for a post on here in the next week or so. It’s a great opportunity to meet other kayak fisherman and learn from some of the most experienced kayak anglers Charleston has to offer. It’s also a great opportunity to try some new spots. Don’t get frustrated. Everyone goes through the same learning curve. And, we all have dry spells now and then.

If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.

I’ll keep my eyes open for the next meet and fish. It would be nice to see first hand how you experienced guys are catching fish.

Other than the main landing on the river are there any other places to launch a kayak on folly? I’ve launched across from crosbys but had some issues with mud when I tried to get back out at low tide

Best luck I have had is in the Crosby’s area, hooked into some bruisers but never seem to land them around that empty new dock, also caught some Reds near the Mariners Cay side

experience noun \ik-#712;spir–#601;n(t)s

  1. the fact or state of having been affected by or gained knowledge through direct observation or participation

  2. that thing you get just moments after you needed it.

I haven’t had much luck in the Folly area, but my buddy swears that there are reds and trout in the Folly. I’ll be trying there in the summer since my kayak is a sit on top. Water is too cold for me.

I’ve had a lot of fun at Bowen’s Island. $2 to launch and park, just pay the older gentleman that will inevitably find you lol. Just google map the area and find the creeks you think are going to hold fish.

I don’t know what it’s been like the past few weeks, I haven’t bothered. Too much work and the days were cold/windy when I could have gone.
