As I posted a few months earlier I am new to fishing saltwater and have since “sorta” figured out the art of live bait fishing. I am now seeking info/advice on artificial set-ups for reds and trout. I have a few z-man paddlers and a jug of Gulp shrimp, but really dont know what to do with them…
I have 1/4oz jig heads that I used with the paddlers a few times and caught one red.
I guess I’m looking for some baits to put in my arsenal because I know that some work better than others randomly at different times. I fish mostly from a kayak so my reel and bait selection must be somewhat limited…
Thanks for any help…
Well first they need to be worked slow, and doin somethin funky. Paddle tails=favorite lures for me. Gulp shrimp worked slow on a texas rig weedless worked well dragged across the bottom. mostly it is about being in the right place at the right time. I like crankbaits too. I also like the zman jerk shad. sometimes I will put a gulp shrimp on a circle hook and just put it through the head. It gives it a cool movement. Really any lure will work. Reds are the type of fish that will eat anything if worked right.
