Fishing at night under dock lights...any tips?

i wanted to try to fish some of the marinas at night in my kayak. Does anyone have any advice on what tide, time of year, and which marinas have lights? I’ve heard this is a great way to catch trout and it fits my schedule. I appreciate any help on this.

I know when my parents lived on the water in Mississippi they always had trout under the lights off their dock. Good luck let us know how ya do

Thanks for yore support!!

Dock lights at night are absolutely great. I actually fished a few docks last night with lights on them in the Wando. I could see about 20 reds under one of the docks and they were crushing the shrimp as they’d swim through. Tried a DOA shrimp at first and no hits. Switched over to a swim tail grub on a jig head and retrieved it as normal with no hits. Cast the grub out again and retrieved it as fast as I could possibly reel. Boom, that was all it took. My advice is use 30lb power pro and a rod that can take some punishment. Monofilament has no place fishing around dock pilings. Most of the hits you get are going to be directly under the light and you have to get those reds away from the dock immediately or you lose. Plan on losing quite a few when fishing that close to a dock.

I have plenty of luck under my dock that is well lit
