Fishing bulls bay this weekend.

Going out with a buddy this weekend. Any tips or specific areas we need to target? Black drum and redfish are our targets. Thanks!:+1:

Would look for heavy structure (docks/pilings,…etc) and use shrimp (live or frozen) on a carolina rig. Be mindful of tide, water/air temp, wind, and water clarity. Some spots only produce during limited windows based on those factors. Bring plenty of gear as you’ll lose a bunch of rigs (if not you’re most likely in the wrong spot).

Haven’t been getting out much lately, last tried early last week, conditions were tough (windy, murky water) and only managed a handful of fish in 6 hours on the water. Don’t fish much on weekends but the less boats the better so guessing areas to the north would be best. Hope that helps. Tight lines and please report back on how you did.

This is a YouTube video of Awendaw Angler and me fishing around the Bulls Bay Area. We drop in at Garris Landing. It’s not been busy during the week but I hear the weekends are a different story. It only has one ramp so you will likely be waiting with the weather being fantastic this weekend. Also, watch the tide because it’s dicey putting in or taking out at low tide. You’ll be in 18” of water at extreme low.

Drive another 15 or so miles north and put in at Buck Hall if you want more parking and much better ramps. I think they have three so waiting isn’t as bad.

If you put in at Buck Hall and go south the first creek running west is Awendaw creek. You’ll cross over it on 17 if you’re coming from Mt Pleasant. The mouth has some oyster rakes and the fishing is pretty good there as well as other rakes up in the creek 300 yards or so.

My wife and I went out in her little boat last Sunday and caught some small trout on the first dock coming out of Awendaw creek heading north towards Buck Hall. I was throwing a Z man 3” soft plastic but like Adam ”Awendaw Angler” suggests, frozen shrimp sitting on or near oyster rakes and structure should catch fish.

Anyway, I hope I didn’t overwhelm you with directions ( you may have grown up on Awendaw creek for all I know.

This video was a month or so ago when the gnats were still out but the fishing hasn’t changed much. There are other videos I’ve posted under FishingFriendZee on YouTube fishing the same waters. I’d bring some soft plastics if you enjoy finesse fishing. The trout are starting to move in.

Good luck and I hope this helps

I’ve always made couple trips every year to bulls Bay. Usually around September to get on the big reds and tarpon. And a little shrimp baiting. have not made the adventure in the last couple years. I will have to make a point to go a couple times this year. I always put in at Buck Hall.

I am fragile. Not like a flower. But like a bomb.

Thanks for the responses. We actually fished the Cape Romaine area. The spot where we camped was in McClellanville so we launched from there. We hit a few docks first thing with no luck… but we did find a lot of menhaden in the ICW. Not really knowing where to go we fished several creeks but with no luck. The following day I spoke with a local and he mentioned sitting in five fathom creek near the inlet. We ended up with several good size bonnet heads and several whiting. Hopefully next time we can get on some reds and black drum out there but we need more experience in the area. And by the way… how does bonnethead eat?
