Fishing/Camping near Marion Forest

Hello all,

Sorry to probably post the same message that most new comers post but…

I’m heading down to SC over my winter break (Im a high school teacher, so yes I still get winter breaks) and will be camping at Marion Forest area. The main motive of the trip is to get some fishing in…preferably for Redfish but I’ll take anything that will tighten my line.

I’m looking for all your advice as to where would be the best place to launch from. Looking at Google Maps it looks like there is a launch site from the campground area but Im not sure what the fishing is like near the launch area.

Ill have my car/kayak and am willing to drive to the best areas along the coast within a couple of hours from my locale. There seems to be a lot of chatter about fishing the Isle of Palms area…is there a best place to launch from there? Marina name?
Also Folly Beach seems to be discussed a bit…marina to launch from?
Any other areas to hit up? I’ll be in the Charleston area for about 4 nights in late december.

Thank you for any information that you can give.

Oh… Here is where the campground is

have you considered hiring a guide? There are some good ones in the area.

If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.

As far as the guide goes, I’d prefer to keep the vacation cost down. That’s why I’m camping.
Plus I like exploring on my own and trying to find a successful pattern…its part of the joy of fishing for me.
I’ll take whatever advice is given and that I’ll read on this forum and hopefully put something together that will lend itself to some quality fishing.
A buddy and I headed down to N.O. for our first redfishing trip last winter with the same strategy and we were pretty successful.

Again, thanks for any info and ideas you guys have…I’ve already have some good ideas based off of reading other posts/replies.

When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Have fun - let us know how it goes. That area there at Buck Hall is where we did a Meet and Fish earlier in the year.
