Ya’ll got any recommendations? Must be stable enough for casting and throwing bait net. I’d also like it to be 14’ or less with room for a dog, light as possible (less than 70lbs), but with a decent seat. Plastic would be better for durability/weight/price.
I’ve been looking on craigs list.
Cut,
I’ve got these outriggers on my canoe and you can stand on the gunwale without tipping. They work great for standing and casting, poling or throwing the net.

I’ve got a 14.5’ Old Town Guide canoe I fish and crab out of. Plenty of room and pretty stable by itself. Only weighs 70#. I stand in it but, not sure I’d throw a net from it. My dad has a set of those Spring Creek stabilizers on a canoe at the river. You could cut flips in it with them on there and be fine. I would like to have a set on mine too. You could hunt/fish out of it then and never worry about a big wake. Throw a cast net too. If paddling you put them about 1.5" above the water - any lean over and it stops it yet, easy to paddle. Now if you stop and anchor or tie up and, you put them down on the water and the boat is rock solid - does not paddle as well with them down. You could put them on any canoe and be very secure. They work well even with them right up on the sides.

Check out Mad River Canoes, they have a 14’ angler which weighs 56#. I’ve a 15’ Explorer which is very stable and great for 2. It weighs 62#. They have a section on which canoe design is best for your use, too. Old Town Canoe’s web site has a lot of info on which hull design is best for your use also. Definitely check out the stabilizers, I plan to get some also, I think Cabela’s carries them as well. Have you thought of a motor mount for an electric thruster? Could really help in the wind or tide changes.
You could also check out the Native Watercraft Ultimate 14.5. It’s a solo/tandem hybrid yak/canoe. Super stable and great seats. Not super fast, but there is room for a pooch. Talk to Dave at Time Out, might be able to set up a test paddle.
