Andy posted a good link in the articles forum regarding safety checklists. As a long time pilot, I’ve used checklist all of my adult life. Here is our fishing checklist. Please feel free to add your suggestions (for example, “file a float plan” is missing as a checklist item, but I always print a map of where I’ll be and stick it to the refrigerator).
Does anyone not keep their anchor on the boat? Maybe this is for folks who usually fish inshore, then decide to go offshore. You keep the long-line anchor in the garage when you fish inshore?
Charts and a compass? just in case an emp takes out all your electronics. I honestly don’t know why I keep them, I doubt I’ll ever see the outside of the jetties. For those of you who go offshore you should check to make sure your phone’s gps works without a data connection before you rely on it as a backup.
