It kind of sucks that you can’t ask a question or post an opinion or report on this site without getting insulted, or disrespected. Then what makes it worse is its mostly the people who seem to have a lot of knowledge and experience that do so. Some people have a lot less opportunities to fish and enjoy the water and just want to maximize the times they do get go by trying to get help from the ones that know. If you don’t know or are misinformed and you ask a question/for help the ratio of negative to positive response is ridiculous. This site really needs a better administrator to regulate the post/people who are disrespectful.
I didn’t see anything insulting or disrespecting in any of them.
I’ve been on this site for about 5 yrs., (which is a less than a lot of folks here.) and for the most part, have seen nothing but people wanting to help others out, whether it be fishing or whatever. I have had the pleasure of meeting a few, (mostly from the striper forum). And every one has had a “how can I help” attitude.
Granted, there have been some heated “discussions”, and even some name calling by guys with big internet balls, but for the most part, I think just about any of them would be willing to give you the shirt off their back if needed.
Give respect to get respect.
If you ever need any help with striper fishing in Lake Murray, let me know. I’ll find someone to help you, because most times I couldn’t catch a fish if my life depended on it.

I see it both ways. Some people are quick to bash others for honest mistakes and for asking questions in a manner that may be different from most. At the same time, some people do not think before they type. For me,this site has been very helpful. As one should, I think about what I write and usually proofread. Remember the saying,“think before you speak.” It applies to typing too. I am also aware of how typed statements can be interpreted differently by different people. Sometimes people are joking and forget to put a smiley and it completely changes the interpretation. I try not bash people because I know I have typed up something before, and read it only to find out I sound like an idiot. All in all, this is my favorite site on the net and i try to help folks just like others have helped me.
I’d rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave.
I am sorry , but this site is like any other forum on the internet. You need thick skin to post on any of them. Oh and the mods are buch better on this site than some of the others I am on.

Maybe you could give an example or tell us what bothered you specifically to write this. With this site, a lot of us know each other quite well and many have been members for ten years or more. Sometimes what the new guys might see as disrespectful, is actually fishing buddies just giving each other a hard time to have fun. Me personally, I’ve probably fished with twenty different people from this site, and all twenty I respect tremendously… but each time I get a chance I’m going joke with them. That’s just fishing though. Half of my comments to Bonzo, you would think I can’t stand the guy. But the truth is, he’s probably the most fun guy you could fish with here. He doesn’t catch many fish, but hey he’s a lot of fun to fish with! Theres a lot of friendly competition and sometimes tone is not relayed over a post on an internet forum like the poster intends.
And I disagree also about an administrator coming in and policing people’s comments. That’s why I love this site. Admin has rules of what you can and cannot do. As long as you follow those rules and keep it pg13, you can say whats on your mind. The la
All in all this is a great forum and pretty tame to what is out there. Yes, there are jackwads out there. I have been known to be one myself. What you get, in my opinion, is a fairly good representation of the “cross section” of our “fishing society”.
You are going to have your pricks, racists, sexists, homophobes, homosexuals, liberals, conservatives, nice people, bad people, Christians, atheists, people who won’t give you the time of day, people who you wouldn’t pee on if they were on fire, and people who would give you the shirt off their back, and people you would bend over backwards to help. Welcome to life, and God Bless.
I wasn’t really speaking about personal experiences but more for others, so maybe more posters will acknowledge what they read and type. It seems to often I read a post to try to get something beneficial from it and ends up just being a bunch of back and forth. I didn’t give examples because I didn’t want to target any people specifically, it was more for the generalship of the whole thing. Plus I assume most of the posters that put stuff like that know what they are posting. Its more just for people to read and maybe to think about it. I joined this site to try to learn more because I finally got my first boat last year and know very little about a lot of the water ways/fishing patterns and want to educate myself on them so I can get more out of my time on them. Yes, there are posters who are very respectful and informative which I definitely appreciate it, and that’s why I am a member and will continue to be.
No doubt there are a few “poop” stirrers here that seem to enjoy being a PITA but, for the most part, there are some really great and helpful people here on CF. I have made some good friends and learned an awful lot from this site. Still don’t catch many fish but that’s my fault.

I get it 40inchreds. I feel the same way sometimes, but it’s mostly frustration with misinformed or uninformed people who try to inject politics into a discussion about say, j-hooks vs circle hooks. I pull back from the keyboard many times (but not always!) because there are just some people that aren’t worth expending the effort upon. Just got to let it slide man. There are some bitter, bitter people out there. I feel for them.
I am frustrated too. Can’t seem to get anyone to PM me some ARS numbers. Have yet to catch one. Probably because they are so rare I guess! Maybe I’m not holding my mouth right.
DF; there you go talking about me again! Your the type guy that 40inch is talking about. He was just to nice, to name you [:0] 40inchred, hang around a little and learn to separate the wheat from the chaff! The first part of my post is the chaff:wink:
I would agree with whats been said. Anytime you interact with a large group of people, there are going to be good ones and bad ones. When I first starting posting on this board and wasn’t quite up to the knowledge level of others, I felt there were a few who came across as rude or negative toward me. That just comes with the territory. Overall, this is a good board with good people on it. There are exceptions on here and you need to learn to ignore those people and let it slide.
40inch thanks for the input. It can get a little frustrating sometime even as the owner of this site. I can tell you that if someone brings a strong opinion they are going to get a strong reaction. I have met a large number of the people in this site, not close to the number that are members, but I can tell you that most on here would help anyone in need even the ones that may disagree. There is quite a bit of joking around that does not always translate well in words and yes there are some petty arguments as well. There is a fine line between entertainment value and crossing the line that is sometimes hard to manage. I hope you will stick around and get to know some of the folks here. I’ve personally learned a lot through the site and have made some lifelong friends. If you live in Charleston come to the oyster roast Saturday and meet some people. Bonzo has dialed up some great weather for us again this year.
