Fishing Etiquette

Fishing with hubby along bank with dock with great success…in comes a boat with 5 people on board; passes our boat with 6" to spare going right over our fishing spot and then anchors within 8’. Told him ‘thanks’ and few more choice words like ‘if I can throw my cast into your boat; you’re too close!’ His response…you are using the wrong bait… Moved away from the idiot. Tempted to post the video but not sure if this guy would ‘get it’. #karmababy

These googans are everywhere nowadays it seems.

I don’t understand that. I’m a Midlands boy. But if I’m on one of the Three Rivers (And I am more than just about anyone), and someone is already waded out to one of “my” spots, I give it up, first come first served. Or if I really wanna fish that spot I’ll quietly approach and ask if they mind some company. I dont get “muscling in”.

No matter how many variables I have control over, I never expect a bite. I only hope.

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

Grand Slam…What!!! Do you mean at Denny’s! Man do I love pancakes!

If the boat is close enough to see your jerk bait in your pants when you let that thing out to make the water level rise and the boat next to you can see its action…then for sure that boat is definitely too close for a comfortable fishing trip. That might not be every person’s rule of thumb but it is a good starting point. “When in doubt whip it out!”

Tie on a 2 oz weight to your rod/reel, aim it right at their GPS/Fish finder or something else valuable (family jewels are just as effective). Tell them what you’re aiming for. Keep casting until they leave. It works.

He came within 6" of your boat?

Post the video…

Definitely post the video!

Has had that happen a few times but I decided to move on and find fish somewhere else and I only barb my head to say hello. Not worth it with the choice words and fish are everywhere. can’t let another ruin my fishing day.

Same thing happened to us. Fishing one of “MY” docks and had a guy slide in and anchor within 20’of us and start working the same dock. We moved down to another dock just to get away from him. As he is leaving he has the balls to ask how we did. I guess people don’t know any better.

windswept…post the video. We can keep a secret.

I creek fish from land; I see boaters in the creek occasionally and most when they see me will continue on and wave or once in a while they stop to chat about what’s biting but always move on afterward giving that unspoken cushion. Fishermen.

I have had one or two that rolled right up near where I was fishing and toss out the anchor and begin fishing. I always wonder why they did this when they have miles of downed trees and oyster rakes to choose from? Then I started to think of it this way, you will always have that jackass that has to pass you only to stop to make a turn right after passing you, they just swapped their car for a boat. As Oyster Cracker said…googans.

That’s a shame things like that happen with so much water to fish in. Probably see it even more as our population grows. If you are fortunate enough to have the time, week days are so much better than the weekend. Not near the pecker heads on the water.

Sad thing is that is not just the water, you see it in the gas station, grocery store, on our roads… etc. If you have kids just teach them not to do the same and manners don’t cost anything but can gain so much.

post the video.

Be careful for requests of videos if they never existed.

I’m calling BS on the video. It does not exist. and 6"??? Yup…PeaPod nailed it. I guess it was a smaller creek. It was not 6"…it was 6’ or even 16’ and the passerby was probably as far away from the other boat that they could get from the anchored boat because the anchored boat was anchored in the middle of a small creek taking up the area of passable water. Just my 2 cents though. I don’t know either party. But I do know a lot of people complain for the sake of complaining and pass the buck without ever taking fault for their own wrong doings.

You want to complain…you say you’ve got a video…post it. Don’t hide behind your keyboard.
