fishing for spots

Someone asked about when the spots run but I would like to know where they are caught. Not someone’s favorite hole but in general. Charleston Harbor, particular rivers or where? Thanks in advance for any help.

I went out on Sunday and caught a nice red. We launched from Buck Hall Recreation Area and went a little north to one of the rivers. If you do a search on here, there are plenty of guys that have posted about what to look for when fishing for Reds. Hope this helps and good luck!

I believe he means spots not reds.

Yes, I mean the little fish, not spottail bass. I know this should have been in the Discussion section. Sorry. I used to catch spots as fast as I could re-bait at the pier at Myrtle Beach and hoped I could do the same down here.

Use to catch them in folly creek by bowens, bigger than a hand but not big like they are up north. In the channel by the middle of the river.

I caught at least a dozen of them while shrimping this past weekend. They were pretty small though.

Craig, When I was a kid my Dad would take me to Breach inlet. We did pretty good, shrimp and back then you could purchase blood worms that worked very well. Now I have not fished for spots since I was a kid, but based on my experience as a kid I would fish the inlets for them this time of year. The beaches should be pretty good, check the pier forum or call folly pier and ask them. Hope this helps

Kiawah river. Look for everyone lining the banks by the bridge to Kiawah. This is the one (or one of) occasion where fresh water live bait works in Salt water. Pink worms.

Or in and around Hunting Island has been good.

Thanks everybody.
