fishing help

looking for someone to help in teaching more techniques on bottom fishing:sunglasses:

Hello,
I am fairly new at off shore fishing.
Some good info can be found at the DNR web site how to make bottom rigs etc, Salt Water Magazine, and surfing the NET. Charleston Angler has seminars on trolling, bottom fishing, fishing for kings, they are great seminars , well worth your time.

For Bottom fishing I use (grouper & snapper )
-penn 4/0 reel, good strong rod

  • 80 LBM test darcron
-leader material 80-100 lbm tied with 2 dropper knots and 2- 5/0- 7/0
    hooks
  • 8- 16 oz weights
-I mainly use squid for bait, other baits include mud minnows, blue crabs, feather jigs.

Speed Jigs by Shimano are suppose to be a hot item, i have not use them.

For spadefish i use jelly balls, found floating in the harbor, @ the size of softballs, just cut a piece off & put on a hook. ( forget what size) i leave the bait balls in the back on the boat and let the juice pull the fish to the surface or tie a bait ball to a string and pull up @ 5 feet at a time from the bottom and get them to the surface.
