Isn’t Fritz doing that too?

What ever happened to the idea of people going to a tackle shop and talking fishing with guys in there? Maybe a couple hundred trial and error trips so that when they do catch a fish it makes it all the more worth it. Everyone wants to be handed something without working for it anymore. It saddens me.

I tried my hand at this several years ago. Even had a booth at the boat show one year. It's a great idea and I wish you well Fred. Getting people to admit they need help is just as hard to do on the water as it is in real life situations. There are most certainly plenty of people that need "on-water" instruction out there.

On another note, check your pms Fred.

I agree with you about the guys at tackle shops helping you with techniques and what tackle to use…But, I think what you might have missed out on (if you clicked on his link and read it) is the importantance of BOATING SAFETY)…there are a lot of people who buy a boat go out on the water and NO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about operating a boat much less navigating it through our waters putting themselves and others in danger…I think a class like this would be helpful to a lot of folks that are new to boating!!..Good luck Fred!!!

I don’t really want to make a couple hundred trial and error trips when gas is $3.80 a gallon. I agree with people just wanting to be handed things… its terrible. I disagree with people acting like everything is a big secret and not wanting to lend any advice. I don’t have a problem with someone keeping their honey holes to themselves, but there shouldn’t be a problem teaching someone how to use a solid rig and bait in and average spot to produce a fish. Boats, water, fishing and not knowing where to go or what to try is intimidating. Spend this money for this bait throw it here and catch this fish sounds excellent. Less time wasted and more time on the water doing what we enjoy safely. I hope it works out for you Fred. Good luck!

There’s only one line in your post I disagree with… There is no such thing as “wasted time” on the water.

I didn’t mean time wasted on the water… I said less time wasted MORE time on the water doing what we enjoy safely. Some of the best fishing trips I’ve taken with my dad we were out all day and didn’t even catch a fish! We had a great time though and made memories I won’t forget. Don’t get me wrong id rather go out and bend rods non stop but we all know it doesn’t work that way all the time.

Amen Too Busy. I spend more days on the water not catching than I do catching and I can honestly say, I never felt one day was ever wasted. It is a privilege and a delight to be out there.

Recieved this from a friend who used my services.

Thanks Ryan and glad it worked.

I recieved this e-mail from a client of mine who I spent time with doing my fishing instruction with

Fred,
I went out fishing this morning on the last part of outgoing tide. I fished the mouth of a creek that I previously scouted. Almost immediately, I caught 2 keeper Trout. I moved to another spot with a drop off by a shell rake and caught a 17 inch Red.

After the tide changed and started coming in, I went to an old dock on the Wando and fished at the end by the floating dock. First cast I landed a 19 inch Red. Caught another 17 and 18 inch Red. Missed a couple of bigger Reds as well. All were caught on a 1/4 ounce red or white jig head with a mud minnow. Thanks for all of your advice and information you have been giving me! Im looking forward to the charter in a couple of weeks!

Take care,

Ryan
