Fishing Mentor needed

We would like to find a Mentor maybe an older person who does not go out much by themselves or does not have a boat, who could teach us to fish Charleston Harbor or offshore close in for Reds, Snapper or sheepshead, maybe even trout. We have a lot of enthusiasm to make up for lack of experience , but would really appreciate someone who has fished the harbor or offshore and has that knowledge. We live a few hours away, Bethune, SC. So we are looking for a good weekend when it gets warmer, maybe late march early april. 65 at least or warmer.
We will supply the Boat Carolina Skiff 198DLV with T-Top , Fish live well and cooler. No trolling motor yet or GPS :(. But we may have one by then. you just have a fishing license , your own rod and you can bring a friend as well if you want especially if they have knowledge also.

I cant believe nobody wants to fish.

genehunter! Sweeten the pot with free beer and you’ll have to take your phone off the hook!

no one is going to take you to their fishing hole. you should be able to find your own with a little luck and persistance.

IF he doesn’t have a GPS all you have to do is take your handheld and not show the numbers! Just show him how to anchor and rigs and such. But then again, if you have numbers you most likley have a boat, so get him to pay for gas and take him fishing. Don’t know how far I’d go offshore in his skif.

I am sure by the time anyone answers on here, I will have a GPS, Trolling motor and probably great grand children.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

We dont plan on going offshore far, but on a good day you know, we will be out along the coast trolling or something close in, I personally dont like the ocean that much. But like i said if its a nice day with little wind we will venture out a little.

Gene…check out East Cooper Fishing Club

http://www.eastcooperfishingclub.net/

We have members with boats and those without boats and we try to encourage a Fishing Matchup, getting guys with boats together with guys without boats. Membership is a family membership and you’ll get discounts at some of the local shops.

We’re going to have a membership Calcutta or or around March 24 where our members with boats take our members without boats out for a fishing contest with bragging rights, but it’s mostly about having fun.

Meetings are the first Monday of every month, we have speakers, talk about or successes. It’s a good group of folks. Check us out at the next meeting.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I finally broke down and ordered that Minnkota RT 70 with i-pilot. I know I cant fish without it and well the money just appeared out of thin air. I love when that happens.

Now I just need that Side scan sonar and some locations of wrecks or structure i can fish.

any tips.

do a search on this site of spots for beginners on hte rivers you normally fish, odds are you can find a spot to try out. just get out and fish, if you see a place that looks good… FISH IT!

How does one make this happen?

water is already near 70 degrees…
check local tackle shops for maps of reefs nearshore and structure offshore…these things are very valuable…

I’ll help you out. My boat is down for the count and I need to get out. PM me if you want to and give me a time (if you could do it a week in advance that would be great because I do schedule my weeks.)

Umm, you gonna eat that?

Thanks guys, we got the trolling motor I-Pilot and jstrange and I have made plans for next Saturday. Now we just need the weather to cooperate.

Gene hunter give me a call . I ll show you how to get around nearshore and catch fish from sharks to spades and black sea bass . And give you more gps numbers that I don’t fish much nearshore anymore . Most my time is spent out in blue water these days. 830 3675 but if you need advice navigating jetties or waters in charleston just call fish a lot of boats and dive .and my time is jamed usally but I’ll try to help where I can .

I would like to thank JStrange and wife for being a lot of fun and showing us around charleston and showing us how to fish the area. John is a true gentleman and scholar and we are very grateful for his help. We would both love to go fishing with you again any time we are back in Charleston. Maybe next time the wind wont be so horrible and I promise to get the i-pilot working better. I think the batteries where the issue. But again, thanks for your time. We may not have caught any fish but we made some new friends.

later.
