I bought a couple MirrOLures (52MR and TTR) over the weekend and tried them Monday. I have not figured out the best way to fish them yet.
I tried reeling them in very slow and twitching every so often. They did not go as deep as I thought they would. I was fishing 10’ to 12’ deep. Can you fish these baits that ddep? Am I supposed to wait a few seconds before reeling them in and stop ever so often to keep them down?
with any mirrolure or any plug type of bait, is really dependent on the day u fish. best suggestion is to mix things up and see what they may be hitting on.
try from slow to really erratic, but really any way, or combination can work, just depends on what they want that day! and depends on the lure as far as how deep it goes. hope that helps.
Drop it in and observe how fast it sinks, say 1 ft/sec. If you are in 10 ft, count to around 9 before beginning retrieve. Gotta be careful of underlying structure though. The 3 trebs on the 52M will find it. Ask me how I know
I use a jerk, jerk, pause retrieve. Make sure you are connected to the plug at the pause ie little to no slack, cause that’s when they will take it.

While probably more big trout have been caught (my opinion) on Mirrolures than any other lure, I feel suspending jerkbaits fill the same niche and do a better job.
Have caught a ton of fish on sinking MirroLures if the jerk and pause does not work
Try a slow steady retrieve without pausing holding the rod tip low. Goes against how the lure was designed, but has worked very well for me. If you watch it come through the water it had a very natural wobble to it.
I got in the boat with an old man several years back and all he threw was sinking MirroLures and brought them back with a painfully SLOW, steady retrieve as you are alluding. At first, I thought he was nuts because it goes against most usual productive retrieves, but he put plenty of fish in the boat as he had done the previous 50+ years. It is hard to do, as the speed he was reeling the lure doesn’t produce much action, but it works.

I’ve had days that trout would not take a Trout Trick or similar soft plastic if you jerked it much, they just wanted it to be slowly, painfully reeled in. Other days, you needed to shake it enough to rock your boat.
