I recently moved to Mt Pleasant and have been talking to a neighbor about fishing the neighborhood ponds. There seem to be fish in some of them and definitely gators, but I’m not sure what kind or how to fish for them.
Bass, bream, and catfish most likely.
Get a (heddon) tiny torpedo its a topwater , some 3/0 red gamagatsku EWG swimbait hooks, and some zman lizardZ the watermelon, zman sawtailZ and zinkerZ in junebug. Do a bullet weight on your braid, and a foot of leader with a uni knot to the hook. Bring pliers bass like to nibble. You won’t need anything biggee than a 2000 or 3000 reel and a light to medium light rod. But personally the latter is cumbersome.
For bream and bass, several different color and size beetle spins
Thanks Yakman / Optiker. I thought it might be saltwater, since it supposedly connects to the Wando, which I’ve read is saltwater where I am… but I’m not certain. Either way, I’ll give your ideas a try and see what I pull out!
If they are golf course ponds, I would catch and release only due to fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, etc. runoff. Probably want to consider that even for neighborhood ponds. Fish from these small bodies of water can have high levels of chemicals in them. Go small and light with your gear and you should have a blast.

I grew up fishing the Mt. P ponds. They covered up a nice one where the Town Center is. Bass assassin jerk baits rigged weedless in the spring will slay them. On my summers off from the Citadel, being extremely poor, I lived off of catfish out of some of those ponds, and cheap beer. I DO NOT recommend doing that! Watch out for where you fish though. Might get run off if you are trespassing. Back in the day I was young enough that most people didn’t care.

If they are salt they can be gold mines for fun. I have a friend that has some on his property and some of my greatest days fishing have been in those ponds. We dont keep the fish but could if we wanted I wouldn’t in a neighborhood pond. They can be full of big reds, trout, black drum and flounder. Any frozen or cut bait, shrimp and all kinds of artificals should work.
Good Luck!!

This is awesome. I’m really hoping they’re salt! I’ve got some light tackle, so I’ll definitely give that a try. Thanks everyone for the fishing ideas and the cautions on eating them, etc.
My neighborhood ponds my kids catch fish with just about anything. Usually i’ll buy them the $1 bowl of worms at wally world and they will catch all day with those. The list of things they have cought fish with include:
Grubs
Worms
Hot Dogs
Left over steak
pieces of fish body after filleting
etc.
etc.
Generally speaking they are not all that picky here!

X2 on this!! Some of these small ponds contain enough fertilizer to make the fish glow!! Catch and release would be the way to go unless you know for sure…
A bad day fishing is much better than a good day at work.

Thanks!
If they are salt and tidal, you should be fine keeping some to eat if you choose to.
