Fishing on Father's Day

What are all the father’s opinions on fishing on Father’s Day ? A no-no or an earned right? I’ve only been a father for four months so I am curious how those who have came before me have tackled this one.

Start the wife and kid out on the right path that will serve them and mostly YOU well in life. Let them know that this day is about YOU! If You want to fish/sit in the boat and drink beer/sit on the couch and drink beer/do nothing and drink beer, it’s OK. Let them know that when your done with your activities you expect a good meal/with beer/presents/with beer/sex with beer and no cuddling. If you start your family right, you will reap the benefits year after year! Enjoy your Fathers Day and beer.:stuck_out_tongue::smiley:

Easy, the last time I tried that…didn’t work out so well. I’m going to try it again this year anyway!!

I agree. You don’t have to be a jerk about it, but if you don’t start early the wife will never let you do anything. There are always excuses to be made why you can’t go fishing and we (men) don’t get many holidays. Take advantage of your day and never look back.

It’s your day. Do what you want.

I think I’m going fishing Saturday AND Sunday if the weather works out. Sunday my son is coming with me, and I’m trying to get my dad to come along too.

You only get one Fathers’ Day per year. Make the most of it.

On a related topic…

I found in later years that removing older boys from their mom on mothers day can be viewed as a gift. I was surprised.

My wife rocks; she said “its YOUR day, decide what you want to do, and let us know. If you want to go fishing by yourself, or have us with you or do whatever you want” Thats pretty awesome. This year is our 20th anniv.

It’s a tradition in my household. My 9 year old daughter “takes me fishing” every year. It’s usually just surf or pier fishing because they get bored easily. I have a 2 year old boy that loves fishing and he’s excited about going. Truth is, we rarely stay out more than an hour or two. And, I spend the entire time baiting hooks and pulling pinfish off. But, it’s quality family time and that’s all that matters.

If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.

Hmmm, my wife doesn’t tell me what I can and cannot do at any time. If the weather is good and I can go offshore, she knows I’m going period. She knows that after September 1 to January 1 I’ll be deer hunting no matter the weather, unless I’m fishing. I spend time with my boys and she knows that as soon as they are ready, they’ll be with me in a boat or stand.

I’ll be fishing all day Saturday and with my family on Sunday after I wash the boat.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I go on Father’s Day most every year. When my 3 girls were young, we all went together. Now that they are grown amd married, at least one of them will usually spend Father’s Day with me on the boat fishing.
Congrats on becoming a dad ! It’s the best job you’ll ever have.

There is a reason why there is an apostrophe in “Father’s Day”… That shows a sense of ownership or possession…

Fran & I have been married 20 years. She moved me to the Memphis area that year which was a 40 day duck season in Arkansas. I hunted 40 mornings. The next year was a 50 day season, I hunted 50 mornings. The next 60 day, I hunted 60. How? Whenever Fran asks me to do something, I do it. Once a wife realizes you are there for them, 7/24, they don’t ask unless something is important. In our 20 years, nothing, with rare exception, has gotten in the way of my hunting and fishing. I’m headed to Edisto Sat and will report.

Yep thats the way it is around here, not the norm anymore, seems everyone has to “ask” before they can do anything anymore…probably another reason the divorce rate is so high.

Sage words right there Bob

I too was on the fence with this topic. This will be my third Fathers Day. Told my wife I wanted to go out for cobia, spades, or whatever I am lucky enough to pull up. She said have fun. I plan on having a nice fish dinner with my wife and daughter and am going to spend extra time with daughter on Monday.
