fishing out of hilton head 05/25/2016

left skull creek out through port royal sound at 430
met a flat sea
out to R-8 enjoyed another spectacular sunrise
high speed gear in out to the deli one line goes off a few minutes later fish is lost
arrive at deli to see a few boats put out the ballys and black barts
an hour later a few short strikes and one cow in the box another hour and nothing
head north east of sow pen into 600 feet and finally find a nice line of weeds only pick up two slingers and a few more short strikes despite lots of bait and some surface activity
enjoyed the formation of a duel water spout for about a half an hour which picked up the swell a little bit
headed back to the deli on a flat quiet sea
numerous boats there one of which picked up a sailfish double header but overall radio chatter sounded like it was a slow pick there as well
stopped at the towers hoping for a cobia but no such luck
3 dolphin for the day
beautiful day but the fish did not like our stuff today

We left Skull Creek at 3am and headed straight toward the Sow Pen on a flat sea. Tried high speed from 140 ft to 220 ft with no luck. Put the outriggers out and started looking for Mahi. The first hit took an hour but it was our Daymaker. Beautiful Bull at 37-1/2 lbs. we picked at them until 11am and then nothing, headed home at 1pm with 6 nice gaffers & 2 slingers. the gaffers were really nice size. All Mahi were in and around 280 ft. Lots of scattered weeds and trash but not really forming a line. Beautiful day and we saw 4 or 5 waterspouts forming in the distance.

Cool pics of the water spout. We saw several starting to form but never dropped all the way down. Weird how much blue sky is around it and how calm everything else is in the area.
