Any time I buy a new fishing reel I take all the screws out and lightly coat them with a good reel grease. It seems the factories never put any grease on the screw’s when they are manufactured. I learned this from one of the best reel repairman. Mr. Blocker. RIP
Well sure. But… that puts you into the category of guys that understand the mechanics and materials science of reel construction. I can count on one hand the guys that I have met that have seen the inside of a fishing reel.
Two points. I have reels from 30 and 40 years ago that are LIKE new. But, they don’t have big time fishing history.
Point two: The new technology is BETTER than the old technology. But, I agree with your premise; Grease on old reel screws is paramount
