New Years Resolution … Fish More!!!
Braved the cold and went fishing … Stopped by David’s to get bait - he was actually there this time - nice conversation and loaded up with Herring …
Went to Barstow (8:15) and pulled in the mud and sticks and trash … That sucked … there were several other boats out there, but none of them caught anything that I could see …
We did manage to pull in one fat 25" out of the sludge - not even sure how he saw the bait …
We called it at 10ish … Liz and RJ were freezing so we went back home to get them warmed up and grab even more clothes …
We went back out around 12:30 and launched out of Koons and fished mid-lake on the Chapin side where the water was much … much … MUCH clearer …
We ended up with 5 more keepers (we only keep the first 4 so the rest were thrown back) and 8 - 10 “shorts” with a dozen or so knock downs …
Towards the end of the day, we were treated with a “Striper Fire Drill” where 5 out of our 8 bait spread was hit all in succession … RJ was immediately on the 1st pole and reeled in a nice fat 25.5" Striper and boated it all by himself …
Everything was on Herring (cause that’s all we had) and planer boards … and all the Striper were fat - no lean ones even in midlake waters …
Funny Moment of the day: After our Striper Fire Drill we were able to get all the baits back out … the back line starts screaming drag as line is being ripped off the reel … RJ was closest to the reel, but his momma races to the pole and snatches it away from him saying, “I got it, I got it” … As she starts the reel she realizes that she forgot to set the drag on the reel and so her “big” fish turned out to be an 18" shorty … LOLOL … Just goes to show you that there’s no loyalty when it comes to big fish!!
Now for the pics …
Now, if you can believe this … Liz is wearing THREE pairs of pants in this picture … THREE!!!
