Okay, so I haven’t posted a report for a while because last weekend was the MSC TX (which we only weighed in 2 fish - so it wasn’t much to write home about) and the weekend before that was pre-fishing …
The short on that is as follows:
Pre-fished on the 9th … Took a chance and went to Barstow/Beaverdam … When we put in there were only a couple of boats … By the time we were 1/2 way through our first turn there were 12 boats … By the time we completed our 1st turn and headed down Clouds there were 20 boats … by the time we came back out of Clouds there were 29 boats … We picked up 2 25" Striper and lost what felt like (to us anyway) was a good fish … Since we could no longer pull planers for all the Crappie Fishermen (no pun intended) we moved on … Went to Bear and picked up one more 24" Striper …
Fished the MSC TX on the 15th … Since we had zero useful information from the week before we took a chance and went all the way down to Jake’s and fished in the back of the cove … We picked up fish early, which is always a bad sign, and for a while it looked like we were on track to pick up more but then at 11:00 it just died … When we pulled into Jake’s I realized that we were having engine problems so I was reluctant to pull up for fear of causing more damage to the motor … We limped over to the Big Hollow and pulled in there with zero results … We ended up weighing in only two fish and Monday my boat went straight to Mid-Carolina for repairs …
Flash forward to this past weekend and the boat is still in the shop … I spent all weekend wishing I could fish but oh well … Murraymaker and Corey and I went down to the bottom of Moultrie on Thursday and dragged up a hundred or so Atlantic Herring and brought them back … On Sunday I picked up one of Murraymaker’s tote tanks and set it up in our garage/shop …
That is pretty cool…cant wait to see the schooling fish video for sure.
Hope one doesn’t eat the camera:)
I was using 20# braid with a 24" metal leader … Still felt a little sketchy throwing the GoPro …
The GoPro has a float that attaches to the back and keeps it face down in the water … It’s bright Orange and floats real well so if I break off a line I can retrieve it no worries (and my boat can chase down just about anyone who tries to take off with it … LOL) …
I think I’m going to line a spare med-heavy rod with 50# mono and a 24" metal leader and try that out this weekend …
It would take a pretty big fish to grab a hold of the setup … Maybe I should hang some hooks off the leader as well and coat the sides with ProCure … THAT would be a GREAT video … LOL
Mid-Carolina called me back and the boat is ready … $360 is an expensive lesson to always check your gas cans BEFORE using them to fill up your boat …
Good report Rick! Happy birthday (late)!!You, your wife and kids are awesome people!
Thanks Jorge and while your kind words are appreciated for the Wife & kids they are more than I deserve … We’ll have to get together one weekend and tie up some Stripes for the kids …
