Fishing Report 12/07

Since the boards are dead … here’s a report … I’ll try not to make it an epistle …

Fished on Sunday (7am to 4pm) in the Little Saluda/Barstow/Big Man’s areas … It was very (very) windy, but we were able to find a few fishable spots … Slow methodical day with several hectic moments of catching fish and untangling windblown lines …

We ended up with 9 total for the day, but lost two at the boat - one just pulled the hook right as we were getting ready to net it and the second wrapped my big motor and broke off when I tried to net it at the motor …

One of the fish we caught didn’t look right … had patches of scales that looked scraped and had slime patches on them … it was a skinny 25" fish so that one was released …

We did keep a few because … well … because we like fish tacos … LOL … the rest were released …

We had a mixture of Bait … I had three dozen (more like 4+ but not like I’m complaining) really decent (and good sized) Herring from JC’s and I had three dozen (again, more like 4, but still not complaining) Shad from Chip …

Those that know me also know that I really don’t comment much on the bait quality … but I have to say that the bait in both cases was exceptional … and I’m not just saying that to push the shops …

That all being said, we pulled a mixed spread with 12 rods with Shad and Herring on alternate rods in equal positions … FOR US (other will have different results I’m sure) the Striper paid more attention to the Herring than the Shad … and the Striper preferred un-weighted freelines … such that by the end of the day we were no longer running any split shots …

The depth ranges were all over the map as well … We fished everything from less than 5’ to 30-35 feet and had catches across all water levels …

None of the fish we caught were short … all fish were between 23 - 27 inches … All in all it was a good day … if we could have fished longer (had to get back to the house to watch the Seahawks decimate the Eagl

Thanks for livening up the board, Rick. Nice detailed report.

Only thing missing was your excellent videos and pics. Originally I was thinking that you didn’t want to spend the time doing Murraymaker-style editing of your pictures so as not to give away any hotspots! You know what I’m talking about, where it looks like termites ate just the top half of the pic- leaving behind unrecognizable chunks of background. But your reason for not having any this time is completely understood. I HATE windy day fishing. Breezy: OK. Windy: HATE IT! I’d rather watch football, build something, or just about anything else but fish. I seem to work twice as hard, and speaking from my experiences, I seem to catch half as much. Maybe because I’m focused on how much work it is and how miserable I am.

A point that I think that is noteworthy on this Lawcrusher report, there was only one mishap this time- it wasn’t even an expensive one!:wink:You’re getting better.

It’s always good to hear the Linesiders are up in my neck of the lake. Even when I can’t get after them, I can live vicariously through y’all.

Very dissappointed Rick. Since I haven’t been fishing much, I was looking for some reading to get me through the winter. Figured I would go pick up War And Peace, but then scratched that when I saw you posted a report. Guess I’ll stop by the bookstore tomorrow.

Seriously, good report. Good day when you get 9 fish and alll > 23".

Rick, it was nice to see you and the Mrs. at the ramp shortly after 4… I was lazy and slept in and didn’t get on the water until 11:30. Despite the gusty wind and the fish not being where Spoon and I left them on Black Friday, I had an ok afternoon, hooking up with 6 keepers and a 2 pound largemouth. Biggest fish was around 28 inches. I didn’t take any measurements and all are still swimming. Without saying exactly where I was, I was in the neighborhood. All my bites came in super shallow water.

Good report Rick. I might get to go sometime this week.
