Fishing Report 7/26

Went fishing with Shawn to learn the basics of fishing with cut bait …

Liz had to work so I took my daughter, Erika, along to help watch and learn …

We learned quite a bit … some of it more or less common sense and the rest from the years of experience from Shawn and those that taught him … Funny, the things I was worried about (like, how do you have all those lines out and not get crossed up) really weren’t issues and other things that I didn’t know/think about were (i.e. I don’t “cast” with baitcasting reels) …

We didn’t get anchored up and lines in until 7:30ish … Electronics weren’t cooperating … In our first spot (30’- 40’) we did manage to boat 4 keepers and a gut hooked 20" and we lost 2 …

After awhile the bite slowed and we moved to the second spot (45’- 50’) and there were fish all over … but by then it was later in the morning and there weren’t very many interested eaters … Despite the steady flow of non-biting fish in the area we did manage to pick up 6 more keepers, but we also lost 4 others in the trees …

Keeper fish (9) were between 22" and 29" with the majority being in the 24" range …

Big thanks to Shawn for taking us out and tolerating “rookies” in a 14 rod spread … I definitely see value in continuing to learn this method of fishing … of course that also means we’re going to need about 10 more combos and another 6 or so rod holders …

Now for a couple pics …

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

Thats a nice haul brother! Even better with the daughter - I have ruined my oldest also. She’ll come home from Clemson and just go by my mom and dads house in Balentine, grab a rod and fish by herself for hours, leaves and goes back to Clemson without even calling me until later “daddy-I caught one this big”…

Oh man … that’s cold …

Erika will be going (hopefully) to the Air Force Academy in Colorado after she graduates so her chances of sneaking in on us are slim … Sucks when they grow up so fast …

You turn around and you wonder what happened - where did it all go? My baby is 15 going on 30 and is a girly girl. Used to bait her own hook but not now. Rather not fish. Oldest one is getting hyped about deer season. She has a 243 and is deadly with it. Out shoots her old man!

I hear ya … my youngest daughter (Erika) has gone a long way from this:

to this:

Nice slinger/gaffer. She has a beautiful smile-prolly stayed like that for days. Funny what we remember and what they (kids) remember. What we thought was important they didn’t and vice versa. Funny getting older-I seem to be becoming my father at 45. I used to laugh at him falling asleep after supper on the couch…

I heard ya … She still ribs me for catching a bigger one than I did that day … That’s all she’ll remember - not how big it was, but that she outfished the ol’ man while doing it … LOL
