Fishing report 8-13

In rare form we actually pulled from the dock only 15 min past our planned time. Not bad at all. Got out to about 130ish and started the troll. Trolled out to 200 feet and back again to near the outcrop. We had two mean knockdowns but no hook setting was to happen. We then proceeded to catch a king and a Bonita. At that point we decide to switch it up to bottom. Grouper and porgy. Never a black sea bass bite which was odd. Grouper we caught on everything from cur up ballyhoo to cigar minnows and even the biggest grouper of the day was caught on a butterfly jig. The bottom fishing was hot the troll not so much. Awesome ocean today. Ran in and out at 35 mph. Not bad at all.

8 grouper
Mess of porgy
1 king

That’s a nice mess of fish right there. How deep were the grouper?

We got into them at 150 to 160.

Too deep for bass. NICE HAUL!

Nice fish.

there are some monster sea bass in 120ft right now…

I have a spot in 130 that’s full of vermillion and bsb. I didn’t want to break the cardinal rule and leave fish to find more so no bsb for me this trip. I may just bag the trolling for the next trip.

How do you like fishing the Scout? They seem to be built for comfort a little more than the contender’s/cape horn types of layouts. I feel like I’d be afraid to get them dirty!

Nice catch! I see you have a Joe Nall shirt on. Do you fly often at Triple Tree?

I would say that if all I want is a fishing boat there are others that I would choose first. The scout fishes well but is a handful In rough seas. Anything over 4 feet. But I don’t fish unless its 2 to 4 and 10 knots or less. I think its due to it being such a light boat. But being light it burns less gas.

We also use the boat for the family. Rode to hilton head and to savannah and to the beaches on the weekends. So I would say its a good fishing boat and a great family boat.

I am selling this one to get a larger scout. If that tells you anything.

I go there every year for the nall and I will likely go to e-week. Been flying since I was 8. I used to fly IMAC but don’t have the time anymore. Still have all my 40 percent competition planes though. Locally I fly at johns island. How about you?

Nice work on the fish yesterday…love those pics
