Got to Lake World at 6:30 and noticed 3 other rigs just sitting. Finally, I walked to the door to find a sign that they were closed. Better Bait was sold out; so Spoon and I had to use our metal to take lemons and make lemonade.
When we got there the fog was pea soup; so we farted around close to the landing until it lifted a little. Then, it was off to some numbers 91Tiger sent us. The fish just weren’t there. We set up a drift where I’ve caught live bait fish consistently, but with the cloud cover they just weren’t interested in shattered glass and nickel spoons. Finally, around 11, the clouds lifted and we got into some good ones spot locking in 106. We’d drop to the bottom and were getting bit at 70 up to 20. Had some decent 6-7 pounders in the mix. Day saved!
I’ve determined that I need to look into some other colors and patterns in the magnums to get fish to eat metal when it’s overcast. The fish have spoken. Stay tuned!

James, I’ve been playing with the colors on a couple and have caught fish with them. It’s only been a few, but I really haven’t tried them a whole lot since I painted them a couple of weeks ago.
I did leave the back chrome on these, but in the pre-BP days, when I used to use other spoons more I have done well after totally painting some Hopkins spoons.
Fog, glad you bit on my decoy numbers I sent you! Seriously, that spot was loaded around 11:00 Sunday. It would have been interesting to have seen if that spot had fish later in the morning around the same time you were catching fish. Glad you got on them.
Those are pretty Tim! I especially like the chartreuse. I ordered 3 other BP Magnums-- gold shattered, green gizzards, and lavender shad. Looking forward to trying them.
Tiger, I enjoy our text follow-ups to our respective trips. I really appreciate your insights and knowledge with respect to artificials.

I’ve had luck using all typs of tapes on mine! The same tape I use on the small jigging spoons I make for the winter. just use 3 strips to cover the spoon.
I also enjoyed painting up my spoons, it gives you a “secret” weapon haha or sometimes NOT (makes your buddies think you really got something special) I think the bigger the flash the more reaction you get out of the fish, and with the moon being full tonight it should be good.
That’s the truth. Kid about it all the time. Most of the time I’m painting a plug from a color that works perfectly fine and then when it still works talk about how they love my paint job! LOL
I’m convinced, at least with plugs anyway, the action and size matters a lot more than color. There are occassions though, where I have trolled 2 of the same plug and see one color out fish the other.
