What a day. Trolling fish and bottom fish and a sonic boom that was most likely the loudest thing I have ever heard.
We started our troll at about 170 feet of water. There were weeds everywhere and water was going between 75 and 77. We picked up 6 Mahi there but lost one at the boat. We also got a white on for a minute or so. Put on an awesome show. He hit the purple and black islander on the planer. Man was the reel screaming! We gave chase but he spit the hook. I was so looking forward to taking him out of the water and posing for a picture with him…guess it will have to wait for another time ;^).
Well after trolling we decided to hit the bottom. I have never boated a grouper and I was hoping that today was the day…Nope! Fished the bottom in several areas and got some nice fish in addition to the mahi. Ocean was awesome today.
I use the gloves to grab the leader. Had a bad experience in the past with line friction on the thumb lol. We fished straight out with a slight favor the north. We were near the outcrop but straight out deep from it in 300 feet. And yes you can keep the BSB. It opened June first. Looking forward to my next trip.
We heard that same BOOOOOOOM! It was a strangs sounding sonic boom, never heard one like that before. I have been wearing gloves bottom fishing for many years, they will save your hands from certain agony the next day.

“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”
Nice Day. My brother heard the boom on James Island said it rattled the windows in his house. He thought something had exploded said it sounded more like an explosion and was different from sonic booms he has heard before.
I was straight out from the 41004 buoy in about 300 feet. I sewar it sounded like it was right on top of us. I heard the jet engines of a fighter right after the boom.
We were in 140’ just inshore of the outcrops, and heard the fighters after the very strange sounding boom. it was not like any other sonic boom we ever heard, this one rumbled more like thunder.
